tapping out by suzi9mm tapping out by suzi9mm
my first photo in the sports gallery! and don't worry, probably the last one too ;)

i know i'm not a sports photographer, but i do want to get better at it and most of all right now i wanted to share this...moment, this experience. i love this sport. it's mixed martial arts; fighting that mixes several styles and has fairly little ruless. in this picture, the other guy is choking the other, and as a sign of giving up, the other is 'tapping out', which means tapping the floor 3 times. and because of that, the judge has stepped in to stop the fight.

as i said, this is probably my only submission in the sports category, so i expect you to hold back possible complains of not liking this type of material from me, this is important to me and the damage is already done ;) however criticism at the photo is fine alltho i know the technical issues...but maybe you have something to add :)

these guys are Pekka Rantala vs Thomas Valentin, at Cage 5: Winter War.

This is a great photograph, but judging from your icon.. the rest of your gallery is probably going to be more interesting. Trust me, it's a good thing.

I first saw this shot when I first got on DA, more than a year ago. I don't know why I didn't Favorite it then. Maybe I just didn't get the 'community' of DA yet... But anyway, I have talked to people about this picture. The light is so painterly, the Moment sooo nailed... The little bit of motion blur on the victor's face, almost like he's distorting, going berserker. I will make sure my DA buddy jet [link] sees this. I think he will love it, too.

This is sports? I could swear this was a set up photoshoot... :D Just love the bored looking suits in the back... there's just so much you can read between the lines there. :)

I see.. the quality in your photos is very striking. It's quite expensive piece of kit, isn't it? I *only* have Canon EOS1000D.. <sob> ;-)
suzi9mm Featured By Owner May 16, 2009   Photographer
well, the body of the cam does not make the photos in the end. the photographer does. good lens helps. :)
skorpiusdeviant Featured By Owner May 20, 2009  Professional Photographer
That's true. I was just being sarcastic about my EOS1000D, my first system-kit. It's actually quite good when compared to my old Canon G5.

great shot. MMA is freakin' awesome and it really doesn't matter what anyone thinks. If it's important to you then let it be an inspiration. As a wrestler i can understand. Its a huge inspiration for me and i've done a few action shots and drawings of the guys on the team. :D

Aww. I love MMA. And I like ur pic.

Why your last one?
POCKETpunch Featured By Owner Dec 16, 2008  Hobbyist General Artist
Definetly a fave.

MMA is a great way to find out your capabilities and test your senses.
I've trained it for almost a year now, and I can tell you, its ruthless, because you get to use whichever tactic you can against your opponent.
Ofcourse, crotch shots , eye gouging and pinching isnt allowed *thats over the top* but any style of fighting is allowed.
This , in my opinion, is good because you are not limited to a certain style, so that you can exploit what your opponent isnt skilled in, and beat him that way ! :D

my fave style.. ground&;pound + street fight hehe
Nearly always win ^_^

xD make sure you've got headgear though haha.

Very good photo :) wouldn't be a bad thing, seeing more photos this style in your gallery :P

Keep it up ! :)

MMA isn't a true martial art....-.-
suzi9mm Featured By Owner Jun 19, 2008   Photographer
yes, its MIXED martial arts.
BladeWarrior Featured By Owner Jun 19, 2008

If someone goes to gauge out their eyes, they really wont know what to do. Why? Because MMA is a blood sport, all they care about is money, and they have to follow RULES.

They says it's todays #1 self defense, but what are you going to do when someone does something that isn't part of their training?
POCKETpunch Featured By Owner Jun 2, 2010  Hobbyist General Artist
MMA is simply a open class of fighting.
Much like the 'Group B' of rallying back in the days.
Use any legitimate fighting technique.
suzi9mm Featured By Owner Jun 20, 2008   Photographer
its not self defense, its a sport. and sports tend to have some rules, at least. i dont think theres too many in this one, i am not interested in seeing people gauge each others eyes others eyes out, i like to see them wrestle and box and so forth.

never heard anyone calling it self defense... anyhow, maybe if it annoys u so much, u oughta not pay attention to photos like this, its your energy that your wasting from whatever cool u could be ding (serious). im wasting time too, so im done with this, we clearly have diff. views on what MMA is.

Nice pic. A bit blurred but I like the agony on their faces. I do MMA in my home town in Poland and it doesn't look like he's being choked any more. The opponent's arm is on his chin, so it seems like he's already letting him go. I would definitely prefer to see the actual moment of choking (the look on the faces would be much more interesting;P) You even captured the judges:D The one to the left looks quite surprised! Anyway, I like it a lot! I've never seen any MMA pix on dA before...:/
